From President Ken
Ryan:
These are exciting times at the Grayslake
Park District. We have many, many big projects in the works to better
not only our Park District but the Community as well. I have given a
brief overview of the many exciting projects that we have in the works.
NEW PARK DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS:
The new headquarters is located at 240 Commerce
Drive. (Formerly, the After school Club / Sport Gym). Modifications
have been made to make this site compatible for the needs of the Park
District and Community.
CENTRAL PARK IMPROVEMENTS:
You may have noticed some new construction in Central Park. Installation
of a new restroom facility and concession stand has recently begun.
Additionally, the new developments will include picnic shelters, a
playground, kids splash pad, fishing pier, a 9-hole disk golf course,
interpretive trail through the oak woods, a senior plaza with bocce ball
courts, shuffleboard courts and picnic shelter with game tables, a band
shell and security lighting and additional pathways. We believe these
improvements will complete the Central Park Master Plan and make the
park more attractive for all age groups. These improvements were made
possible by a $400,000 grant received from the Illinois Department of
Natural Resources.
GRAYSLAKE PARK FOUNDATION BUY A BRICK PROGRAM:
The main entrance to the Central Park improvements is
being enhanced by the development of a "Walk-of-Fame". This brick
walkway will lead up to the concession / restroom building. Residents
and community businesses can purchase an engraved brick to be placed in
this walkway. This is a great way to remember loved ones or place your
family name in history. If interested in purchasing a brick for this
exclusive walkway, please see the attached information and order form.
All proceeds from the brick sales will be put towards other enhancements
to Central Park. Since the Grayslake Park Foundation is selling the
bricks, all purchases of bricks are tax-deductible.
ALLEGHANY PARK UPDATE:
Regarding the Alleghany property, we have unfortunately
experienced some delays to our original time line. These delays were
unavoidable due to weather and the various permitting processes.
However, recent installation of an irrigation system has been completed
and we plan to be able to seed the 40-acres of phase 1 before the end of
fall. We still hope to see grass growing out there yet this year.
Plans are already moving forward on the development of the 55-acre Phase
II site. The Park District has received $1,150,000 in grant money from
the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for this project. The Board
and staff thank you for your patience during this process. To view the
Phase I development plan for Alleghany Park, please check out our
website at www.glpd.com. |
