During the course of the year, it is sometimes necessary to close one or more of our facilities and cancel programs due to an emergency. Inclement weather is the primary cause of emergency closings. However, programs may also be cancelled if other emergencies occur, such as power failures, heating or water problems.
When the determination is made that a facility or programs should be closed to protect the health or safety of participants, the announcement will be made available as soon as possible.
Information will be updated by 7:30am for all morning classes, by 10:30am for all afternoon classes and 3pm for all evening classes. You can receive updated information by calling any of the phone numbers below, check out our website or Facebook page. A general voice mail message will greet you if all programs are on. If District 46 has cancelled school, there is NO I Love Learning Preschool or Afterschool Sports Mania for the day.

Rain Line: (847) 223-7246
Participants are reminded that the Grayslake Park District makes every attempt to open its facilities and operate programs when this does not pose a risk to participants and employees.
However, the ultimate decision to attend a program during inclement weather belongs to the participant. Participants need to make a determination as to whether or not it is too cold, windy or snowy for their children to safely travel to and from a program.
General Guidelines for Emergency Program Cancellations are:
- If School Districts 46 and 127 are all closed due to inclement weather, all morning programs through 12:00pm will be cancelled. We will reassess the weather, road conditions and school availability at 10:30am for afternoon classes. For all programs held after 5pm, a decision will be made by 3pm if programs will be held.
- If School District 46 closes, the Afterschool Sports Mania classes will be cancelled for that day. The Superintendent of Recreation will make a determination on all other programs based on the weather, road conditions and school availability. (Preschool will only be cancelled if District 46 closes due to weather emergencies).
- If High School District 127 closes, the Superintendent of Recreation will make a determination on all programs based on the weather, road conditions and school availability.
- A decision will be made by 7:30am, for all morning classes, by 10:30am for all afternoon classes and 3pm for all evening classes.
