George Weinert Fishing Derby

Long time Park Board Commissioner, George Weinert served on the Grayslake Park District from 1997-2007 and then again from 2008 to the time of his passing, dedicating 17 years of service to his community. George is remembered as a strong, dedicated leader who loved the park district. In the Fall of 2015 the Grayslake Park Districted hosted the 1^st Annual George Weinert Fishing Derby to honor George. Thanks to the Weinert Family (Karen, Christine, Mike, Sophia, Joelle, Andrew, Michelle, Billy and Robyn) allowing us each year to keep his memory in our hearts and to celebrate such a wonder man!

Join us on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Jones Island Park for our 12^th Annual George Weinert Fishing Derby from 8-10am. Awards and Raffles will be given out. Bring your own rod, reel, cast line and bait.

Although online registration is now closed, this is still a FREE event and everyone is welcome to attend. Participants who did not pre-register can sign a waiver at the event to join in the fun.

Pre-registered participants may pick up their event t-shirts at the derby. A limited number of extra t-shirts will also be available on-site while supplies last. Grab your fishing gear and come enjoy a great day at the water with family and friends!
